The Old Barns

Indiana is home to thousands of barns, many of them old and majestic. Sadly, the architectural magnificence of the old barns is slowing dying. Many of the oldest barns are in terrible disrepair, and every year there is a good storm that takes down one or two of them. All of the pictures below were taken from my bike as I have pedaled through Porter and LaPorte counties in Indiana. Most of these barns are within a 20 mile radius of my house.

  1. Lou I trust this was the right version of you blog. I used the link that you sent me. I enjoy your posts, so I welcome reading further installments. I wish you good health and fast recovery.

  2. Lou, what beautiful photos. The exposed boards on some of the barns show such detail of the craftsmanship. How sad that these will someday all be gone. Happy that you’re recovered and back on your bike!

  3. Lou,
First of all, I have to apologize. When I read several of your comments on Strava following my great friend Albert Thebarge,, I assumed you were a guy named Lou. Lesson #1…. never assume!
However, I soon realized my mistake and stumbled upon your website. It is freakin’ AWESOME! I love your passion and enthusiasm for this great sport/hobby of ours. I just purchased a Pugsley myself and am looking forward to riding all winter here in CT.
BTW… do you happen to be a fan of the Fightin’ Irish??? I have 2 girls and hope and pray that someday one will be lucky enough to attend ND. I can hope at least!
I look forward to following your rides on Strava and browsing your website! Keep up the great work and be safe out there.

    1. Daryl, sorry, but I just read this comment! I’m not very good about keeping up with this blog I admit. I had three races in the past month and meant to blog them all for my dad but never got around to it. Of course I’m a Notre Dame fan! Who in Northwest Indiana isn’t? But of course, don’t mention that to my Purdue alum husband. Lol. Thanks for the kind comments.
